Ethernet to Fiber Media Converter

Ethernet to Fiber Media Converter provides the capability to connect UTP copper-based Ethernet devices to a fiber optic link, allowing for the utilization of the advantages offered by optical fiber. These advantages include:

  • Extending the reach of Ethernet signals: When using unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable, copper-based Ethernet connections are limited to a maximum data transmission distance of 100 meters. However, by employing an Ethernet-to-fiber conversion solution, it becomes possible to extend this link over distances exceeding 120 kilometers using fiber optic cabling.
  • Safeguarding data transmission from noise and interference: In environments where there is a high level of electromagnetic interference (EMI), such as industrial plants, Ethernet to Fiber Media Converters can be utilized. EMI can lead to data corruption when transmitted over copper-based Ethernet links. However, data transmitted over fiber optic cables are completely immune to this type of noise. By employing an Ethernet to Fiber Media Converter, you can interconnect your copper-Ethernet devices over fiber, ensuring the integrity of your optical data transmission.
  • Allowing for future bandwidth expansion: Fiber optic cables possess significant bandwidth capacity. While the notion of limitless bandwidth is not entirely accurate, typical optical fibers can support bandwidth ranging from approximately 100 MHz/km (using multi-mode fiber) to over 1000 MHz/km (using single-mode fibers). This provides ample room for expanding bandwidth requirements in the future.

Benefits of Ethernet to Fiber Media Converters

  • Ethernet to fiber and fiber back to Ethernet links
  • Create copper-fiber connections with fiber switches
  • Fast Ethernet or Gigabit Ethernet to multi-mode or single-mode
  • Provide you with the flexibility to add fiber on a port-by-port basis
  • Protect your investment in existing copper Ethernet-based hardware
  • Enjoy the benefits of fiber without having to make wholesale changes

14 Slots and 16 Slots Unmanaged Media Converter Chassis

We offer two options for rack-mounted chassis for unmanaged media converters: a 2U height chassis with 14 slots and a 2U height chassis with 16 slots. The 14-slots chassis allows for plug-and-play installation of up to 14 individual media converters. On the other hand, the 16-slots chassis is designed specifically for card-type media converters and can accommodate a maximum of 16 card-type converters with 10/100M capabilities.

The two converter chassis can supply media converters with power, which will simplify the links and structure. They can work stably and adapt to a broad width of voltage. They can store strong power and can be operated and managed easily.

The maintenance of the chassis is also very easy. They support hot-swappable power modules. They can work with a single power supply or dual power supply as users wish. When the power supply should be maintained or changed, it is not necessary to pull out the converters, which makes maintenance easy.

They are the very ones to meet the requirements of good stability, high capacity, high integration, and good quality. With all these advantages, the converter chassis can supply users with an effective solution for networks.

Installation of Rack Mounted Chassis:

1. When you unpack this product package, please check the devices with the packing list.

2. Install the converter chassis in a standard 19” cabinet and fix it.

3. For 14 slots media converter chassis: Unscrew two screws from the side next to the RJ45 port of the media converter. Then use these two screws to fix the carrier given with this option onto the side of the media converter, leaving the bigger side of the screws ahead. Then insert the converter to the chassis, and make sure the power plug of the chassis is inserted in the power port of the media converter. When the converter is fully and firmly fit the chassis, fasten the screws on the carrier. Follow the above steps, install all necessary converters in the chassis, and then block up any slots not for use temporarily. Then go to Step 5.

4. For 16 slots media converter chassis: insert the card-type converter to the guide rails of the slot, leaving the bigger side of the screws ahead. Make sure the power plug of the card-type converter is inserted in the power port of the chassis. When the card-type converter is fully and firmly fit the chassis, fasten the screws. Follow the above steps, install all necessary card-type converters in the chassis, and then block up any slots not for use temporarily. Then go to Step 5.

5. To install the converter, follow these steps: First, insert the RJ45 twisted pair into the electrical port and the fiber into the fiber port of the converter. Next, connect the provided AC to DC power adapter to the receptacle at the back of the chassis. Make sure to plug it into a standard AC outlet with a voltage range of 100-260Vac or a DC outlet with a voltage of 48Vac.

Afterward, turn on the power switch. In a 14-slot media converter chassis, the POWER LED Lamp will be located on the front side, while in a 16 or 17-slot chassis, the POWER LED Lamps can be found on both the front and back sides. When the power is on, the POWER LED Lamps will turn green, indicating that the power supply is normal.

Additionally, the fans in the chassis will start working, confirming the stable power supply. To ensure proper installation, check the LED Indicator Lamps on the converters installed in the chassis. These indicators should show valid network connections and working status.

Once these steps are completed, the chassis will operate smoothly and reliably.

6. If the chassis is with dual power supply, please turn on both two power supplies, and they will work together. This will extend the life cycle of the power supply and can make sure the chassis work normally in case one of them breaks down.

Fault and Maintenance of Rack-Mounted Chassis:

1. Find out the problems:

When the electrical current becomes dangerous, the POWER LED Lamps of the chassis will become red with alarm at the same time. When the problems have been cleared, the LED Lamps will be back to normal.

If the fuse has blown, or the power supply has broken down, the POWER LED Lamps will be off, and the fans will not work. (The fuse is under the plug, you can pull it out for checking or changing when necessary.)

When the fans of the chassis break down, the POWER LED Lamps will be normal but the fans will not work. If this happens, the power supply must be changed to new ones, and we will do this for users, you should not do it by yourself, or you LW break up the options.

If the power supply of the chassis is normal, but the LED Lamps of the converters are off, there might be any problems with the connection between the plugboard of the chassis and the power supply, you should stop the electrical current and pull out the power adapter for checking and reinserting.

2. Chang the power supply for new ones:

When one of the dual power supplies breaks down, the chassis can work normally. You should pull out the broken one. Pull out the plug from it, and change it for another new one, then connect the plug again. When this is been done, the chassis and converters will keep working.

When the single power supply breaks down, just follow the above steps. But when this is been done, the converters installed in the chassis will stop working until the new power supply works normally.

Fault and Maintenance of Media Converters:

Fault DescriptionCause DescriptionMaintenance
POWER LED Lamps are offHaven’t connected the power plug or not a valid connectionConnect the power plug and make sure it is a valid connection
Link/Act LED Lamp is off1.Havenot connected the electrical cables to the electrical port or not a valid connectionConnect the electrical cables to the electrical port and make sure it’s a valid connection
2.Used the wrong electrical cables for electrical connectionUse the right type of electrical cables for electrical connection
3.Any fault with the NIC and the terminal of EthernetTo make sure the NIC and the terminal of Ethernet can work normally
FX and FX-link/Act LED Lamps are off1.There might be any fault with the terminal optical devicesCheck the terminal optical devices and the main fiber to see if they can work normally. If not, then maintain them
2.The optical fiber has broken down or the connection of optical fiber is not valid
3.The optical fiber is over-loss
TX and FX LED Lamps are normal but the data cannot be transmitted1.The connection between optical fiber and devices is not valid, this will cause the TX power not strong enough1.Check the fiber connectors and make sure the connection between optical fiber and devices is valid
2.The system gets power just for a little moment or any changes for the network, these LW cost a little time for media converters to adapt2.If this option can still not work a long time after all installations, then stop the power supply, wait a little moment and try again with the power on
