The fiber fast connector is a type of connector that can be installed and connected in the field without the need for special tools, epoxy, or polishing. It is designed to simplify and speed up the fiber termination process, especially for applications such as fiber to the home (FTTH), repair and replacement, and equipment test leads.
The FAFC consists of a pre-polished ferrule that has a factory-cleaved fiber stub and a refractive index matching gel inside. The ferrule is aligned with the fiber to be terminated by a precision mechanical alignment mechanism, such as a V-groove or a spring. The gel helps to reduce the insertion loss and reflectance of the connection. The connector also has a locking mechanism, such as a wedge clip or a retention cap, that secures the fiber in place.
